The Ubuntu Trophy is the only international sommelier competition in Africa. In 2024, we will feature a contest between Zimbabwe, Mauritius, and South Africa for the first time. This competition is open to all members of the Sommeliers Association of Zimbabwe, who are encouraged to register for a chance to qualify for the final round in Stellenbosch, South Africa, on December 9, 2024.
The first round will take place on November 4, where qualifications will be assessed independently by the ASI – Association de la Sommellerie Internationale or “International Sommeliers Association” (ASI) through the ASI Certification 1 Exam. The highest scorers will be invited to Stellenbosch, South Africa for the final round. This competition offers not just a chance to participate, but a unique opportunity to earn a diploma recognized by over 70 countries worldwide.
Importantly, for our paid-up members, the qualification and exam are entirely free, subsidized by the Sommeliers Association of Zimbabwe. To register, participants must be Zimbabwean citizens residing in Zimbabwe or South Africa, with a valid passport for travel to Stellenbosch, South Africa.
We wish the best of luck to those who will represent Team Zimbabwe at this prestigious international contest!
Selections will be held in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Harare and Victoria Falls we will try to accommodate most major areas.
